In our Language Acquisition courses -Ab Initio and English B- we encourage students to use the English language in a range of contexts and for different purposes.

The activities and tasks used in the classroom, such as, pair-work, group discussion, and debates, are based on inquiry and focused on effective teamwork and collaboration. Thus, students put into practice not only their intellectual, but also their social skills.

Interactive oral work in class is essential to successful teaching in English B and Ab Initio, ensuring that discussions are handled in an atmosphere of tolerance and respect

Speaking, as well as the skills of Reading, Writing and Listening, needs to be taught, but above all, practised. “You can discuss the ‘theory of conversation’ as long as you want, but in the end good conversations are achieved by …well, conversing, a lot and often! (David Ripley- IB Inthinking)
